In its 3rd year, Fashionista held its annual conference, “How to Make it in Fashion” on Friday, Oct. 23, 2015. The day-long event took place at the Highline Stages in  the Meat Packing District of New York City. Keynote Speakers included:  Bobbi Brown of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and Yahoo Beauty and Marissa Webb of Designer and Creative Director for Marissa Webb and Creative Adviser of Banana Republic.

This conference is geared to those aspiring to be in the fashion industry as well as those who are actively working in fashion. I had the great pleasure of making new fashion friends such as Vanessa Street of VStreet Design, Jess Garbarino of Brunswick Park (performance apparel company), LaTonya Bell (Washington D.C. attorney and Style Consultant), Clarele Mortimer, Julie Acevedo, and many more!

Since fashion law is a combination of many areas of the law, it is important for fashion law enthusiasts to be creative in their networking. One of the best aspects about the conference was: an assigned mentor!  The opportunity to talk with a fashion industry insider is priceless.

My outfit for the conference

Fashionista assigned mentors based on areas of interest. I chose editing/writing because I am always looking for ways to improve the blog. My assigned mentor was:  Lauren Indvik. Ms. Inuvik is the editor in chief of Fashionista. Prior to Fashionista, she served as a business editor at Mashable. Ms. Inuvik has been published by InStyle, Forbes, Fast Company, CNN.com, and Fashion Theory (a peer-reviewed academic journal).

Between the amazing swag bag and networking opportunities, this is a conference not to miss! Fashionista will be holding its next conference in Los Angeles on Nov. 20, 2015. Click here for more information.

  1. Sounds like a valuable experience- can’t wait to hear the advice you left with! Off the topic of law, but I love the outfit you chose for the conference!
